A Place of Excellence

Kyamakanda Secondary School was founded in 1984 by Canon Ben Kwikiriza, who also served as its first head teacher. It was established on a strong church foundation under the Church of Uganda, operating under the Kyamakanda Archdeaconry. Over the years, the school has built a reputation for academic excellence, moral formation, and community service. It offers both Ordinary Level (O-Level) and Advanced Level (A-Level) education, admitting both boys and girls. In 2024, the school celebrated 40 years of service to the community, marking four decades of providing education despite infrastructure challenges.

Kyamakanda Secondary School stands out for its strong foundation in faith and values, having been established by the Church of Uganda to provide not only academic excellence but also moral and spiritual growth. This grounding gives the school a distinctive culture where discipline, integrity, and respect are emphasized as much as classroom performance. Another unique aspect is the school’s deep connection with the community. For four decades, it has thrived through the collective efforts of parents, the Church, local leaders, and well-wishers who have worked together to support its growth. Unlike many urban schools, Kyamakanda Secondary School provides learners in a rural setting with access to quality O-Level and A-Level education, bridging the gap between village communities and higher educational opportunities. Its ability to remain resilient and impactful despite challenges is a true testimony to its uniqueness.

Kyamakanda Secondary School’s motto is “Possumus”, a Latin word meaning “We Are Able.” This motto reflects the spirit of resilience, determination, and confidence that defines the school community. It inspires both students and staff to believe in their abilities, face challenges with courage, and strive for excellence in every area of life. “Possumu” is not just a phrase, but a guiding principle that reminds learners that with hard work, discipline, and faith, they are capable of achieving their dreams. It is this belief — “We Are Able” — that has enabled the school to grow steadily since its founding, overcoming obstacles and producing graduates who contribute positively to society.
